Same-sex partners to get Fed benefits

By PHILIP ELLIOTT, Associated Press June 17, 2009 WASHINGTON – President Barack Obama, under growing criticism for not seeking to end the ban on openly gay men and women in the military, is extending benefits to same-sex partners of federal employees. Obama plans to announce his decision on Wednesday in the Oval Office, a White House official said Tuesday. Their exit came in response to a June 12 Justice Department brief that defended the Defense of Marriage Act, a prime targ...

I just looked at my mother, and then she added: “But that is all right. She takes care of her old parents and sends her brothers and sisters to college.” I was confused. Does that mean it was all right to be a lesbian? Or was it all right to be a lesbian if you care for your old folks and send your sib...
