Roxas, Escudero jump in survey

Roxas, Escudero jump in survey Shows youth vote emerging *** I've said it before in this blog and am saying it now. 2010 will be a youthquake of an election. It will show the tremendous power of young people, of the Internet, of new media. And for those running for senators in 2010 who still thumb their noses down at the young and the tech-savvy, mga kuya, magtanim na kayo ng kamote sa tabi-tabi. *** By Gil C. Cabacungan Jr. Philippine Daily Inquirer First Posted 19:04:00 03/31/2009 MANILA, Philippines--With a little over a year before the elections, solons said the horse race for the presidency has become too close to call with age and the youth sector emerging as key factors in the people’s choice. Palawan Rep. Abraham Mitra said the surge of Senators Manuel Roxas II and Francis Escudero in the recent surveys showed that the youth vote has started to kick in. "The gain of Mar and Chiz are substantial from previous surveys while almost all of the rest are going down,’’ said M...

Escudero plans to run for president

By Eldie Aguirre, Orlando Dinoy Mindanao Bureau First Posted 16:50:00 01/31/2009 www.inq7.net Philippine Daily Inquirer DIGOS CITY, Davao Del Sur -- Senator Francis Escudero on Friday said the Philippines needs a man like Barack Obama so that Filipinos could dig themselves out of their difficult situation, even as he announced anew his intention to run for president in 2010. "I am running because we need a leader that can provide solutions to the unemployment problem, the clamor of teachers for higher salaries and [I am] a man that could address the issue on hunger and poverty," he told reporters here. Escudero said what the country needs is a leader who has a vision similar to that of the first black American president. He said he was not comparing himself to Obama but that he believed he could be a good president with the help of the people, especially the youth. "The problems of the Philippines must be solved by Filipinos. Empowering the youth sector of the society is...

Chiz: There'll be elections in 2010

And so Cassandra sayeth: My friend Chiz Escudero will announce on his 40th birthday on October 10, 2009, that he is, indeed, running for President of the Philippines in the May 2010 elections. And as the ye olde Americans would put it, damn the torpedoes, but whether you like him or not, Chiz will run a strong and phenomenal campaign focused on the young. Chizbama na ito! ***** By Ben Serrano The Philippine STAR www.philstar.net BUTUAN CITY – Sen. Francis “Chiz” Escudero said Charter change to extend the term of President Arroyo is already dead as far as the Senate is concerned and the presidential elections in 2010 would take place. Escudero hinted that seven politicians, mostly from the opposition, would seek the presidency. But if former President Joseph Estrada succeeds in his unity talks among the opposition, “then it will be narrowed down to two,” he said. Malacañang said that it sees no reason why the 2010 national elections would not push through, adding that it had nothing to ...
